R. Whitney Winston is an associate in the Washington office of Steptoe & Johnson LLP, where he is a member of the Intellectual Property group. Mr. Winston’s practice focuses primarily on patent preparation and prosecution, intellectual property litigation, and intellectual property counseling.
Mr. Winston prepares and prosecutes patent applications; drafts and negotiates license agreements; conducts due-diligence and pre-litigation investigations; counsels clients on export compliance; and advises and represents clients in interference proceedings, patent infringement litigation, and Section 337 investigations before the US International Trade Commission.
He has worked with inventions in the following technologies:

Noteworthy
- During law school, Mr. Winston worked as a computer scientist technical consultant to the Romanian Patent Office through the Department of Commerce Commercial Law Development Program and as a patent examiner in artificial intelligence for the US Patent and Trademark Office.
