Peter J. Meyer is a partner in the Chicago office of Steptoe & Johnson LLP, where he is a member of the Litigation group. Mr. Meyer focuses his practice on financial services, intellectual property and other business litigation.

Mr. Meyer has represented financial services firms and other parties in securities litigation and other disputes. He also counsels and represents corporations, financial services firms, and individuals with regard to securities actions and in connection with investigations and enforcement actions brought by the Securities and Exchange Commission and other regulatory bodies.  In addition, he has experience defending corporations, officers, directors and underwriters in securities class actions and derivative suits. 

Mr. Meyer has represented both plaintiffs and defendants in patent disputes involving a variety of technologies, including zoom lens and single-lens reflex cameras, computer software, Internet and computer network technologies, in-flight entertainment systems, sensors, and cellular telephones. He regularly represents clients in disputes involving allegations of theft of trade secrets.  Mr. Meyer has lectured on patent and other intellectual property issues.

Mr. Meyer has served as an adjunct professor at the Chicago-Kent College of Law's Center for Law and Financial Markets, teaching classes on securities law.

Before becoming a lawyer, Mr. Meyer was a news reporter for a major metropolitan newspaper.
