Matthew A. Williams is an associate in the Los Angeles office of Steptoe & Johnson LLP, where he is a member of the Litigation Department. His practice focuses on toxic tort defense.
Prior to joining Steptoe, Mr. Williams served for five years as a Lieutenant in the US Navy Judge Advocate General’s Corps. As a Tort Litigation Attorney he defended medical malpractice and toxic tort claims brought against the Navy and Marine Corps. Mr. Williams also served in the position of Senior Defense Counsel on criminal cases and was selected from among 400 peer attorneys to serve in the Pentagon as the principal assistant to the US Navy’s senior uniformed attorney. In addition to the US Navy, Mr. Williams prosecuted cases as a Special Assistant United States Attorney for the Northern District of Florida. He has represented clients at over 30 administrative hearings and 100 court proceedings which included bench and jury trials.
