Aleta T. Okediji is an associate in the Washington office of Steptoe & Johnson LLP, where she is a member of the International Department. Ms. Okediji’s practice focuses on Immigration.

Ms. Okediji assists individual clients in obtaining immigrant and non-immigrant visas in all categories and represents non-US citizens in adjudications before immigration judges. She advises international organizations, non-profits, and businesses on the management of individual transfers into and out of the United States. Ms. Okediji also helps clients comply with the numerous immigration statutes and regulations.  

Prior to joining Steptoe, Ms. Okediji practiced employment-based immigration law at a prominent Washington law firm, assisting foreign staff of multinational and national corporations in obtaining non-immigrant visas, labor certification, immigrant visas, consular processing, and adjustment to permanent resident status. Ms. Okediji has also represented clients before US Citizenship & Immigration Services (CIS) in matters of naturalization and family-based applications for permanent residence and in removal proceedings before Immigration Court.

During law school, Ms. Okediji was twice the recipient of public interest fellowships that allowed her to work with domestic and international non-profit organizations. In this capacity, she assisted asylum applicants and refugees in a variety of immigration matters, including the initial application, adjustment of status, and naturalization as well as social services. She also was involved in preparing visa applications for victims of human trafficking.
