Tony Onorato is an associate in the New York office of Steptoe & Johnson LLP, where he is a member of the Litigation Department. Mr. Onorato's civil/commercial litigation practice focuses primarily on insurer defense; hospitality litigation, including disputes between hotel owners and operators; government affairs; and technology-related issues.
In addition, Mr. Onorato represents Americans tortured and taken hostage by Iraq during the 1991 Gulf War. He has made appearances on MSNBC and CNN in connection with the case, and has been extensively quoted by media sources, including the Associated Press, Washington Post, The Hill, National Law Journal, and Legal Times.
He recently made new law in an emergency shelter case, arguing against a government agency’s statutory authority to delegate the termination of shelter benefits to a private contractor, and to avoid appearing as a party to proceedings reviewing such termination decisions.
Prior to joining Steptoe, Mr. Onorato worked for several years in the political polling and consulting field, advising congressional and corporate clients on their campaign, political, and media strategies.
