Douglas R. Peterson is an associate in the Century City office of Steptoe & Johnson LLP, where he is a member of the Intellectual Property group. He concentrates his practice in the areas of prosecution and litigation of patents.

Mr. Peterson’s practice involves preparing and prosecuting utility and design patent applications before the United States Patent and Trademark Office and other foreign countries. He is also experienced in preparing and prosecuting trademark and copyright applications. Mr. Peterson’s experience covers a wide array of technologies including mechanical, electrical, chemical, and biomedical technologies.

In addition, Mr. Peterson is experienced in providing validity, clearance, and patent infringement opinions. He also advises clients, ranging from start-up companies to large corporations, in the areas of patent portfolio management and development. Mr. Peterson also has experience in litigation of patent and trademark infringement cases.

Representative Matters

• Patent counsel for start-up companies including preparing and prosecution patent applications, managing United States and foreign patent application portfolios, and conducting due diligences.
• Representation of plaintiffs and defendants in patent infringement cases involving medical device, mechanical, and chemical patents.
• Representation of plaintiffs in trademark infringement and counterfeit cases, including the coordination and execution of a seizure order involving counterfeit goods.
