Brittany Prelogar is a partner in the Washington office of Steptoe & Johnson LLP, where she is a member of the International Department. Ms. Prelogar’s practice focuses on internal and government investigations, anti-corruption compliance counseling, and international disputes.
Internal and Government Investigations
Ms. Prelogar has conducted internal investigations into alleged Foreign Corrupt Practices Act violations, accounting and securities fraud, and other claims of misconduct by corporate managers. She also has represented individuals and companies in investigations by the Securities and Exchange Commission, Financial Industry Regulatory Authority, and US Department of Justice. Ms. Prelogar has conducted dozens of witness interviews in both English and French.
Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (“FCPA”) Compliance
Ms. Prelogar has advised clients in a variety of industries and locales, including in Africa, Eastern Europe, and Asia, on their compliance obligations under the FCPA and related laws. She has conducted on-site risk assessments, developed anti-corruption policies and procedures, prepared and delivered anti-corruption training to client personnel, and advised clients on appropriate anti-corruption safeguards in dealings with third parties. She also has counseled clients on a variety of compliance-related matters arising in the course of their day-to-day operations under anti-corruption and related laws.
International Disputes
Ms. Prelogar counsels and represents clients in connection with a variety of international disputes. She has represented clients in international arbitrations under International Chamber of Commerce and International Centre for Dispute Resolution rules. She also has advised clients in matters related to the Alien Tort Claims Act.
Other Experience
Prior to joining Steptoe, Ms. Prelogar was an associate in an international law firm, where she gained experience in a broad range of litigation matters in US federal and state courts, in internal and government investigations, in international arbitration, and in project finance. Ms. Prelogar served as an intern with the Department of Commerce’s Foreign Commercial Service at the US Embassy in Paris, France and with the Center for Environment and Development in Cameroon.
Ms. Prelogar’s pro bono experience includes the successful representation of several individuals seeking asylum in the United States. She also has analyzed international anti-corruption developments and war crimes tribunals for non-profit organizations.
