Michael Rips is special counsel in the New York office of Steptoe & Johnson LLP, where he is a member of the Litigation Department. Mr. Rips, a former clerk to Justice William Brennan on the US Supreme Court and Judge Henry Politz of the US Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit, has extensive experience in various areas of appellate and trial litigation, including intellectual property, securities law, criminal law, antitrust, and art law.

Rips served as advisor to former
Senator
Robert
Kerrey, the President of New School
University. He supported the President
in his efforts to establish a new law school for the university, while also
advising individuals and institutions on issues affecting the arts.
Mr. Rips is a frequent commentator on legal cases and issues for various media sources. He has been featured on CBS and CNBC, and has written articles and op-editorials for the New York Times, New Republic, New Statesman ( UK), New York Magazine, New York Sun, and The Week ( UK).
