Saad Gul is an associate in the Washington office of Steptoe & Johnson LLP, where he is a member of the Litigation department.  In the course of his practice, Mr. Gul regularly litigates matters before state and federal courts at all levels.  In addition to drafting merits and procedural briefs in appellate matters, Mr. Gul’s practice focuses on the litigation and arbitration of commercial and contract disputes, with a particular emphasis on the Uniform Commercial Code.

Recent highlights have included a Second Circuit victory that reversed a trial court’s imposition of sanctions under 28 U.S.C. § 1927 against Steptoe’s client, a law firm that had retained Steptoe to handle its appeal, a favorable outcome in the Seventh Circuit in the first appellate decision on credit default swaps issued during the current economic crisis, and successful representation of a global client involving a billion dollar international breach of contract case.

Prior to joining Steptoe, Mr. Gul spent several years as a software and management consultant, working with major US and international corporations.

He has authored and co-authored several articles in various law reviews and other professional publications, winning the New York State Bar’s Albert S. Pergam International Law Writing award for 2004.  Mr. Gul has also served as speechwriter to several candidates for state-wide office in North Carolina.

In 2011, Mr. Gul served as the firm’s loaned associate to the Legal Aid Society of the District of Columbia.  At Legal Aid, Mr. Gul represented clients in family and domestic cases.  In the process, Mr. Gul conducted numerous evidentiary hearings and argued several motions before the DC Superior Courts.  In addition, Mr. Gul drafted and negotiated multiple settlement agreements.
