J.A. "Lon" Bouknight, Jr. is a partner in the Washington office of Steptoe & Johnson LLP, where he is a member of the Regulatory & Industry Affairs Department and former Chairman of the firm. His practice focuses on the electric power industry and on antitrust and competition issues in both regulated and unregulated industries. His electricity industry clients have included utilities, independent power producers, private equity investors, and international companies. Mr. Bouknight represents electric power clients in the full range of regulatory, commercial, and antitrust matters affecting the industry.
Mr. Bouknight's practice includes counseling; litigation in trial and appellate courts and the conduct of proceedings before federal and state regulatory agencies, including the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) and Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC); and practice before antitrust enforcement agencies. He has advised and represented a number of domestic and international firms in merger and acquisition transactions.
From 2005-2008, Mr. Bouknight served as Executive Vice President and General Counsel of Edison International, a major electricity company.
He has authored a number of published materials and lectured extensively on energy industry and competition topics, and has been active in bar association activities, including having served as Chair of the Electricity and Antitrust Committees of the ABA’s Public Utility Law Section.
