Susan Munro is a Partner in the China practice of Steptoe & Johnson LLP.  She has extensive experience working on anti-bribery compliance programs and investigations in China and Hong Kong.

Ms. Munro has advised investment banks, insurance companies, IT companies, and pharmaceutical or medical equipment companies on compliance with anti-bribery laws. She is part of Steptoe’s multi-office and cross-disciplinary team that works together to provide clients with comprehensive advice on the US Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, the UK anti-corruption statutes, and related anti-corruption laws around the world. She regularly assists clients with the development and implementation of compliance policies tailored for China. In addition, she has conducted numerous internal investigations on anti-bribery matters and related accounting and disclosure requirements for multinational companies operating throughout Asia. 

In related practices, Ms. Munro advises clients on China and Hong Kong employment issues and has worked on earnings management investigations for US listed companies operating in Asia. 

Ms. Munro has been active in Hong Kong and China based arbitrations for several years and has advised clients in relation to disputes before the China International Economic Trade and Arbitration Commission (CIETAC), the ICC, the HKIAC, and the LCIA. She also regularly advises clients involved in cross-border litigation involving Hong Kong and China.

Ms. Munro was educated in England and Hong Kong. She qualified as a barrister at the Inns of Court School of Law in London before being called to the Bar of England & Wales and to the Bar of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of the People’s Republic of China in 1997. In 2009, she qualified as a solicitor in England & Wales. She pursued post-graduate studies at Fudan University in Shanghai and is fluent in Mandarin Chinese.
