Exempt Organizations Advisory - Exempt Organization Tax Form Packages Available

February 23, 2006

Along with the new Form 990, the IRS has recently made available for electronic download the most commonly used tax form packages for tax exempt organizations, including: Form 990-POL, filed by tax code Section 527 political organizations; and Form 990-PF, for Section 501(c)(3) private foundations and certain charitable trusts.

Form 990 is divided into three separate packages: Form 990-3 for organizations exempt under Section 501(c)(4); Form 990-2 for organizations exempt under 501(c)(3) other than private foundations and certain charitable trusts; and Form 990-1 for exempt organizations under Section 501(c) other than 501(c)(3) or 501(c)(4).

These packages will be mailed to exempt organizations in late February, with the exception of those organizations that filed their prior returns electronically. Soon after this mailing, the packages will be available in IRS walk-in centers.
