The IRS has published Form 990 Filing Tips and Frequently Asked Questions for reporting foreign activities. Schedule F, Statement of Activities Outside the United States, requires organizations that meet the reporting threshold to provide information on grantmaking, fundraising, investments, unrelated trade or business, program services, and the maintenance of offices, employees, or agents outside the United States. The FAQs provide information on what organizations need to report and how specific activities should be reported on the form. They do not address or affect other reporting requirements for foreign activities such as FBAR reporting for foreign bank and financial accounts.
These FAQs are part of a series published by the IRS to help tax-exempt organizations and tax practitioners as they file the redesigned Form 990. The Form 990 Filing Tips Archive is available here.
