FINANCE RESUMES HEALTH CARE MARK UP:   Today, the Senate Finance Committee resumed its mark up of Chairman Baucus’ health care reform plan. Baucus' mark includes the establishment of health insurance co-ops to compete with private insurers. The committee defeated an amendment by Sen. Rockefeller that would have added a public insurance option to Baucus’ package. Sen. Schumer is also expected to offer a public option amendment later today.

  • Today, House Majority Leader Hoyer suggested that a health care bill might not reach the floor until November. While Hoyer left open the possibility that the bill could come to the floor in October, he said that he and Speaker Pelosi are in “lockstep” agreement that a bill will not be brought to the floor until it is ready.
