(August 16, 2018, Chicago) — Law360 has named Steptoe Chicago partner Jeremy Goldkind a Rising Star in Product Liability. The Rising Stars list recognizes individuals under 40 whose legal accomplishments transcend their age. The 2018 Law360 Rising Stars list was selected by a team of editors who carefully reviewed more than 1,200 submissions.
In a profile published August 13, the editors write that “Goldkind has had successes defeating utility workers' suits against chemical companies and helping grieving parents make use of an untested anti-terrorism law, making him one of five product liability attorneys honored as Law360 Rising Stars.”
Goldkind focuses his practice on a combination of toxic torts/product liability matters, as well as complex commercial/class action litigation. He represents a range of national and international clients and litigates in state and federal courts throughout the United States in cases involving a breadth of claims and legal issues.
In recent years, Goldkind has successfully defended several manufacturers of a wood preservative against claims by utility workers that their alleged exposures to chemically-treated utility poles caused a wide variety of alleged symptoms and illnesses. Goldkind is also part of the Steptoe team that, for more than a decade, has defended dozens of toxic tort cases filed by former employees at manufacturing facilities in several states who claim various forms of illnesses from alleged occupational exposures to a product used to manufacture electrodes for use in the production of a metal.
Goldkind is part of a deep collection of environmental, product liability and mass tort lawyers at Steptoe that has handled and successfully tried litigation throughout the United States and in other countries. Steptoe’s product liability practice has been ranked highly by legal directories, and represents product manufacturers in a variety of industries.
In addition to his longtime work in the fields of product liability and toxic torts, Goldkind has had similar success in a wide variety of commercial litigation matters. Most recently, in a high profile case combining product liability and commercial litigation claims, Goldkind was a key part of a Steptoe team that secured back to back wins for VTech North America LLC in a class action lawsuit filed over a 2015 data breach of VTech’s customer information.
For the past two years, Goldkind has been recognized for his work in The Legal 500 US, and for the past three years, Goldkind has been recognized as an “Emerging Lawyer” in Illinois by Leading Lawyers, a division of Law Bulletin Publishing Company, which publishes the Chicago Daily Law Bulletin and Chicago Lawyer.
At Steptoe, Goldkind is the chair of the Good Lawyering Subgroup of the Professional Training Committee. He also chairs the summer associate program in the Chicago office, and is a member of the firm’s lateral recruiting committee.
