Law360 quoted Dane Jaques in a February 5 article titled “Three Questions About Self-Driving Car Liability.” The article discusses the challenges of determining who is liable when a self-driving vehicle is involved in an accident.
Mr. Jaques says that as more self-driving cars become mainstream, liability for accidents may start shifting from individual drivers to the manufacturers of autonomous vehicles and their systems. "This would not necessarily result from any significant change in tort laws since current laws address liability for design/manufacturing defects and failure to warn, as well as driver negligence," he adds.
