Overview
Global Investigations Review has named Steptoe to its inaugural GIR 30, an independent guide to the world’s best firms for international investigations. The top 30 law firms were unveiled during an awards ceremony held in New York on September 24.
The GIR 30 is part of the GIR 100, an annual guide to the most trusted firms for cross-border investigations work. The guide profiles 100 firms that the GIR editorial team has assessed as experienced and busy enough to be viewed as a trusted pair of hands for corporations who discover possible wrongdoing of the type that could turn into a crisis. Each firm in the GIR 100 is included only after GIR’s editorial team has vetted their current and past work to establish that they have gained experience at the highest level. The top 30 firms represent the very best of the practices included in the book.
According to the editors, the GIR 30 uses objective criteria to rank the firms – including the number of active cases, how high-profile those are, the number of leading figures at a firm, and the hours billed, among other elements examined and put into the formula.
GIR editor David Vascott says: "We’re confident that each firm appearing in this guide – whether it’s a multinational law firm with an army of investigations specialists, or a regional firm whose lawyers know the local legal terrain inside out – has substantial experience in handling corporate internal investigations and government-led investigations. And, accordingly, each has earned the trust of its clients, of other law firms and, importantly, of the government agencies in the jurisdictions in which it operates."
Global Investigations Reviewis a London-based publication offering daily news and analysis focusing on the law and practice of international investigations. In early 2015, GIR acquired Just Anti-Corruption, an online news service based in Washington that focuses on the law and practice surrounding the FCPA and similar anti-bribery laws around the world.
