Overview
Steptoe’s Jason Abel was quoted in a Morning Consult article titled “McConnell’s Mark on Campaign Finance.” The article, published December 16, discusses Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell’s provisions in omnibus spending bills to shape the next round of Republican priorities on campaign finance. The three provisions in the omnibus package will slow some of the moves the Obama administration has been pursuing against outside groups dumping millions into political campaigns and represents a major win for those who argue against a tougher disclosure regimen.
Mr. Abel says: “The proponents of disclosure took a big hit with this one. These were issues that seemed to be the next frontier in campaign finance regulation. Anyone following any issue on Capitol Hill should always be looking to these must-pass spending bills as an opportunity.”
