Overview
Legaltech News quoted Alan Cohn in an article titled “Obama Administration Moves Toward Increased Cybersecurity Protection.” The article, published February 10, discusses two executive orders issued by the White House that are expected to have far-reaching impact on the federal government as well as the private sector. Legal observers say as a result, government agencies and US corporations need to closely watch the latest initiatives from President Obama to improve cybersecurity.
Mr. Cohn says: “The emphasis on data privacy and identity security, including the creation of a Federal Privacy Council by Executive Order, will likely lead to greater regulatory and enforcement activity in this area. Companies should be ready for increased scrutiny of their data privacy practices; law firms can anticipate more work in this area, but also a greater expectation that they protect their own networks and tighten their own policies…. The federal government’s accelerated adoption of strong multi-factor authentication and identity proofing, and a review of how to reduce the use of Social Security numbers as an identifier, may usher in changes in how businesses of all sizes will need to think about identity protection.”
