Leader’s Edge quoted Alan Cohn in an article titled “The Payoff.” The article, published in the January/February issue, discusses compelling reasons to pay – or not to pay – hackers a ransom. According to the article, many technology experts firmly believe not to pay, but are appreciative of the complicated decision.
Mr. Cohn, a former assistant secretary for strategy and planning at the Department of Homeland Security, says cooperation with the government is essential. “Law enforcement agencies understand the vexing nature of ransomware and are much more likely to look favorably upon victims that are cooperative, even if a ransom has been paid.”
