Overview
For the fourth consecutive year, Steptoe’s Insurance Group has been named a Law360 Insurance Group of the Year. In a profile published February 16, the editors highlight some of the group’s successes over the past year including victories for an AIG unit in the Fifth Circuit and Travelers Indemnity Co. in West Virginia’s highest court.
“I think our clients truly value our having been around for so long,” says group head Harry Lee, who’s been in the practice group 31 years. “Oftentimes we know more about what’s happened with a particular department of an insurer client than they do, because we’ve been around the whole time.”
The group also helped Lexington Insurance Co. reach a settlement of litigation over a $44 million property damage and business interruption coverage claim by Ochsner Health System in New Orleans.
Looking ahead, cutting-edge technology should continue to spawn growth for Steptoe’s insurance practice, Mr. Lee tells Law360. Driverless cars raise a number of questions about who should bear liability for incidents involving their operation, and security for computer technology has grown rapidly after a relatively slow start.
“I think now everybody views it as not just valuable but a necessity to have cyberinsurance, so the market has taken off,” Mr. Lee says.
