Arizona Republic Quotes Erin Bass on Arizona’s New Sick-Leave Law

June 29, 2017

The Arizona Republic quoted Phoenix associate Erin Bass in a June 29 article titled “Arizona’s New Sick-Leave Law Could Make it Harder for Employers to Discipline Workers.” The article discusses why Proposition 206 seems likely to complicate employer-worker relations when it takes effect July 1. In particular, companies and non-profit groups might find their hands tied if they want to fire or discipline workers — or do something as benign as change schedules or job responsibilities.

Ms. Bass, who focuses her practice on labor and employment litigation matters, says, "The law presumes that any adverse action taken within 90 days of an employee taking sick leave was (unlawful) retaliation,” adding that requests for sick leave also would be covered.
