Overview
Unmanned Aerial quoted Dane Jaques in a September 1 article titled “FAA Issues Drone Authorizations for Harvey Relief.” The article discusses the temporary flight restrictions (TFRs) the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) put in place in the disaster areas of Texas following Hurricane Harvey. The FAA has made it clear that unmanned aircraft system (UAS) operators need to adhere to the restrictions unless they have proper authorization.
Mr. Jaques says: “These temporary flight restrictions are critical to ensure the safety of disaster response and recovery efforts. There have been instances in the past where illegal UAS operations have interfered with disaster-response aircraft and, in some cases, caused the aircraft to abandon their missions to avoid a possible collision with UAS.”
