PaRR Quotes Jon Sallet on Obama-Era DOJ Merger Enforcement

October 26, 2017

PaRR quoted Jon Sallet in an October 23 article titled “PaRR Statistics: Obama-Era DOJ Merger Enforcement Spiked in 2011, Otherwise Increased Over Time.” The article explores the US Department of Justice (DOJ) Antitrust Division’s merger enforcement activity during the Obama administration.

Mr. Sallet, a former deputy assistant attorney general for the Antitrust Division, explains that because the DOJ bears the burden of proving its cases, it makes the agency’s litigation focus extremely important. He says the career staff looks very deeply into the facts of each merger review and the merger guidelines provide the framework they need to think about in the context of litigation. He adds, “The front office provides leadership, but the day-to-day work is led and conducted by the dedicated professional staff.”
