Overview
Steptoe partner Joe Caldwell received the US District Court for the District of Columbia’s distinguished service award upon the completion of his two-year term as chair of the court’s ethics committee. Chief Judge Beryl Howell presented Mr. Caldwell with the award at a reception held at the federal courthouse in Washington on January 30, which was attended by the committee and by judicial members of the district court.
The committee, known as the Committee on Grievances, receives, reviews and disposes of complaints filed by judges, lawyers and the general public alleging ethical violations by lawyers who appear before the court. Mr. Caldwell served seven years on the committee.
In presenting the award, Judge Howell thanked Mr. Caldwell for his innovations which led to improved efficiencies, responsiveness, processing times and record-keeping by the committee.
At Steptoe, Mr. Caldwell represents clients in commercial disputes and white-collar criminal matters and serves as co-chair of the firm’s Diversity Committee. He is a fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers, a distinction reserved for one percent of trial lawyers in the United States and Canada.
