  • The NLRB’s acceptance of “micro-units” and quickie elections
  • Union-backed “community organizations”
  • Labor’s use of ULP charges as organizing tools
  • The risks of remaining “neutral” during a union campaign
  • Joint employment issues
  • Difficulties in maintaining confidentiality in the work place
  • The most important decisions of the NLRB in the past year

Guest Panelists

We are proud to offer distinguished and experienced speakers on topics of great importance to your everyday work.  This year, our guest panelists include:

  • Marcia Sherman, Vice President - Associate Relations, Macy's Inc.
  • Matt Antonek, Executive Director - Labor Relations, Verizon Wireless Corp.

Steptoe Speakers

Steptoe’s ERISA, Labor & Employment Group in Phoenix represents employers throughout the country in employment litigation, union avoidance, union elections, decertifications, contract negotiations, arbitrations, and all related NLRB and judicial proceedings.  The Group  has substantial experience representing employers in jury trials, class actions, trade secret and restrictive covenant cases, and qui tam suits.  In particular, Mr. Katz successfully argued the seminal case of Bill Johnson’s Restaurants v. NLRB in the US Supreme Court, which established an employer’s right to sue a labor union for defamatory statements made during otherwise protected activities.  Mr. Wheeless served as lead counsel in a series of NLRB Wal-Mart/UFCW cases that established employers’ rights during union organizing.
