Dong Chen is a patent agent in Steptoe’s New York office, where he is a member of the Intellectual Property Group.  Dr. Chen has prepared and prosecuted patent applications for a wide range of technical areas, including  biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, biologics, chemistry, nanotechnology, and medical devices.  He assists clients with prior art searches, patentability, and freedom-to-operate analyses.

Prior to joining Steptoe, Dr. Chen worked as a patent agent for a well-known intellectual property boutique law firm in Northern Virginia.  Prior to becoming a patent agent, Dr. Chen served as a research assistant professor at the Feinberg School of Medicine at Northwestern University where he conducted research on the molecular pathways leading to breast cancer and cancer metastasis.  He also conducted research on insulin action relating to obesity and metabolic diseases at the Joslin Diabetes Center and Harvard Medical School.

Dr. Chen’s doctoral research involved studies of insulin signaling pathways and cellular stress signaling pathways to uncover cellular mechanisms for glucose transport in fat cells.
