Yves Botteman represents companies in cartel and antitrust investigations and has secured early termination without fines or very favorable outcomes in several European Commission proceedings. His antitrust litigation practice includes representations in significant follow-on damages cases before national courts of EU member states.

Mr. Botteman works with clients to shape their market strategy and design and implement their distribution network in Europe. He also regularly advises clients on the rising EU competition enforcement into e-commerce, including geo-blocking, online platforms, algorithms, big data and the Internet of things. Mr. Botteman also provides practical support in implementing antitrust compliance programs and conducting audits.    

Mr. Botteman has gained substantial exposure to the media and Internet, consumer products, chemicals and agro-technology, aviation and aerospace, automotive, and insurance industries.

He leads the firm’s global Antitrust & Competition practice.

  • Representing LG Chem in civil antitrust claims initiated by Microsoft/Nokia in English courts in relation to alleged conspiracies affecting Lithium-Ion Batteries
  • Representing a leading video streaming provider in the DG COMP e-commerce sector inquiry
  • Representing a leading video streaming provider in the French Competition Authority’s Pay-TV investigation
  • Counseling a leading consumer products supplier on setting up a selective distribution system across the EU
  • Representing a leading video streaming provider before the French Competition Authority in the context of the SFR/Numericable merger
  • Advising a leading video streaming provider in the context of the review of the Liberty Global/Ziggo merger by the European Commission
  • Advising Rockwell Collins Inc. on the EU and third country merger control aspects of its acquisition of ARINC Inc.
  • Acting as outside antitrust counsel for trade associations active in the biotech sectors
  • Counseling various industry trade associations on standardization initiatives and on the compilation and dissemination of industry statistics
  • Counseling Japan Airlines on the creation of a joint business with British Airways and its extension to Finnair and Iberia on Europe/Japan routes
  • Advising a leading provider of mobile satellite communications on EU and national merger control aspects of its acquisition of a leading supplier of maritime data-link communications services
  • Advising and representing an EU-based e-payment solution provider and an EU banking association in the EC antitrust investigation into e-payments.
  • Securing early termination of a number of EC cartel investigations without fines on behalf of a leading Asian chemical company
