Steptoe partner Darryl Nirenberg co-authored "Understanding the Wire Act: Why the Department of Justice Missed the Mark When It Overturned Fifty Years of Interpretation of the Act" published in the Gaming Law Review and Economics (Vol. 20, Number 3, 2016). The article discusses the Office of Legal Counsel of the Department of Justice's opinion that reversed the Department's long-held position on Section 1084(a) of the Wire Act and its application to gambling that does not relate to a "sporting event or contest," effectively changing the law as it had been enforced for five decades.
