Daily Tax Update - February 7, 2017: Representative Chu Joins Ways and Means Committee

Representative Chu Joins Ways and Means Committee:  Rep. Judy Chu (D-CA) will join the Ways and Means Committee, filling the seat previously held by Xavier Becerra, who resigned to serve as California’s attorney general.  Before joining Congress, Rep. Chu previously served on the California Board of Equalization, which administers California’s sales and use, fuel, alcohol, and tobacco taxes.

Senate Finance Committee Chairman Hatch and Ranking Member Wyden Announce Finance Subcommittee Assignments:  Today, Senate Finance Committee Chairman Orrin Hatch (R-UT) and Ranking Member Ron Wyden (D-OR) announced assignments for the panel’s six subcommittees for the 115th Congress.  The subcommittees include: 

Health Care

  • Chair: Pat Toomey (R-PA)
  • Ranking Member: Debbie Stabenow (D-MI)

International Trade, Customs and Global Competitiveness

  • Chair: John Cornyn (R-TX) 
  • Ranking Member: Robert P. Casey, Jr. (D-PA)

Energy, Natural Resources and Infrastructure  

  • Chair: Dean Heller (R-NV) 
  • Ranking Member: Michael Bennet (D-CO)

Social Security, Pensions and Family Policy

  • Chair: Bill Cassidy (R-LA) 
  • Ranking Member: Sherrod Brown (D-OH)

Taxation and IRS Oversight

  • Chair: Rob Portman (R-OH) 
  • Ranking Member: Mark Warner (D-VA)

Fiscal Responsibility and Economic Growth

  • Chair: Tim Scott (R-SC)
