IRS Criminal Investigation Division Annual Report Notes Decline in New Investigations:  In a report released today, the IRS Criminal Investigation Division acknowledged that it initiated roughly 12% fewer criminal investigations in 2016 than in 2015, continuing a trend dating back to 2013.  The report cites budget cuts and declines in employee headcount as reasons for the decline.

IRS Extends Period for Timely QSEHRA Filings:  Today, the IRS extended the period for employers to furnish an initial written notice to their eligible employees regarding a qualified small employer health reimbursement arrangement (QSEHRA) under section 9831(d) of the Internal Revenue Code.  Employers were originally required to provide initial written notice by March 13, 2017 (90 days from the enactment of the 21st Century Cures Act).  The extended deadline is now at least 90 days after additional guidance regarding the contents of the QSEHRA notice is issued.
