Daily Tax Update - August 2, 2013: House Votes to Block IRS From Enforcing Health Care Act

THE DAILY TAX UPDATE WILL BE PUBLISHED ON A PERIODIC BASIS UNTIL CONGRESS RETURNS SEPTEMBER 10

House Votes to Block IRS From Enforcing Health Care Act:  Today, the House voted to prevent the IRS from enforcing any aspect of the Affordable Care Act.  The bill “Keep the IRS Off Your Health Care Act” was approved by the House in a 232-185 vote.  The House has voted 40 times to fully or partially repeal President Obama’s health care act.

House Ways and Means Chairman Dave Camp said, “The IRS is already out of control, abusing its power to tax and audit the activities of honest, hardworking Americans.  The IRS has betrayed the trust of the American people.”  Camp added, “Democrats want to give this agency more power and authority?  They want this agency involved in Americans’ healthcare?  No way."

Senate Approves Tax Court Judges:  Michael Thornton and Joseph Nega were approved by the Senate to serve as U.S. Tax Court judges.  Earler this week, President Obama announced his intention to nominate L. Paige Marvel for a second term as a Tax Court judge.

The Senate also approved Jason Furman's nomination as Chairman of the White House Council of Economic Advisers.
