Overview
Sandra Cavazos represents clients in complex civil and criminal litigation matters, and heads the nationwide motions practice for a major American corporation litigating asbestos mass tort cases. Throughout her career, she has accumulated experience on a diverse set of issues from her work on high profile cases.
Sandra was selected and worked for the prosecution and trial of deposed Panamanian dictator Manuel Noriega for two years, during which time she dealt with complex issues involving international law and US jurisdiction, classified information procedures, and First Amendment press issues. Sandra worked on the Justice Department's internal investigation of the FBI siege of the Branch Davidian compound in Waco, Texas and also prosecuted white-collar criminal cases as an Assistant US Attorney in the US Attorney's Office for both the North District of California and the Eastern District of New York. Before joining Steptoe, she worked as an appellate lawyer in the Manhattan District Attorney's office under Robert Morgenthau, where she was responsible for handling appeals and habeas corpus litigation in state and federal court, reviewing applications for eavesdropping and electronic surveillance, and advising trial attorneys on legal issues.
