On April 11, 2024, Law360 quoted Neil Dooley in an article titled, "Sanctions Targets Eye EU-UK Split As Appeals Stack Up." The article discusses how a recent court ruling which upended the first round of European Union sanctions imposed on two Russian tycoons, contrasts with the approach taken by the English courts, where legal challenges to the restrictive measures have been repeatedly rebuffed.
Speaking about the court ruling Neil said, "The Shvidler case has reinforced that the UK's approach to sanctions is broad, and the courts will give the policy-makers significant leeway on the factors that they take into consideration." He also notes that, "the court reiterated that it does not matter whether the designated person is involved in Russian politics, or has any influence, because the UK wields sanctions for their deterrent and coercive effects."
