Steptoe’s cybersecurity team has been sought after for media commentary on the ongoing dispute between Apple and the FBI over the cell phone used by one of the terrorists in the San Bernardino attack. The FBI wants to read the contents of the phone to gather more evidence, but the phone is encrypted. On February 23, a federal judge mandated Apple to decrypt the phone, but Apple said it would appeal, further escalating the debate over privacy versus security.
Stewart Baker, former assistant secretary for policy at the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), was quoted in NPR and The Christian Science Monitor, and appeared on PBS Newshour and NBC Nightly News.
