Overview
The IRS released a report titled Tax Exempt and Government Entities FY 2017 Accomplishments. The report provides a range of statistics regarding the activities of the Tax Exempt and Government Entities Division (TE/GE) of the IRS in fiscal year 2017, including statistics regarding:
- Exempt organization return examinations and compliance checks, nearly a third of which involved employment tax issues such as worker classification, unreported compensation, and accountable plans
- Revocations of tax exempt status
- The post-determination compliance program for exempt organizations that filed Form 1023 or Form 1024 and were approved pursuant to the streamlined process
- The new case selection modeling techniques for selecting returns for examination
- Employment tax examinations in the Federal, State and Local Governments (FLSG) function
- Oversight of hospitals for compliance with section 501(r) under the Affordable Care Ac
- Exempt organization determination cases
- Employee plan examinations, compliance checks, and voluntary compliance activity
- Indian Tribal Government (ITG) and Tax Exempt Bond (TEB) examinations and compliance checks
