IRS Releases Fiscal Year 2018 Report on Criminal Investigation: Today, the IRS issued the Criminal Investigation Division’s annual report on significant accomplishments and criminal enforcement actions taken in fiscal year 2018. In fiscal year 2018, the Division’s focus was traditional tax cases, including international tax enforcement, employment tax, refund fraud, and tax-related identity theft. Other areas of focus included public corruption, cybercrime, terrorist financing, and money laundering.
IRS Publishes International Boycott Report Table; 2018 Calendar Year Projections: Today, the IRS released a table reflecting international boycott reports filed for tax year 2016. The IRS also published its 2018 Calendar Year Projections for the United States and IRS Campuses (Publication 6186), which contains detailed projections by approximately 50 different individual, business, and tax-exempt return types.
OECD Issues Guidance on Modifications to BEPS Tax Treaties: Today, the OECD released Guidance for the Development of Synthesised Texts, which presents an overview of the modifications to tax treaties resulting from the Multilateral Convention to Implement Tax Treaty Related Measures to Prevent Base Erosion and Profit Shifting. A related Secretariat Note, also released today, clarifies the rules regarding the effective date for tax treaties of jurisdictions that ratified the Convention last September. The Guidance can be used by governments to provide insight into the impact of the Convention on existing treaties.
IRS Issues Fourth ‘Get Ready for Taxes’ Reminder: The IRS reminded taxpayers to update the withholding forms they give their employers in an announcement issued today. The announcement was the fourth in a series to remind taxpayers to prepare for the upcoming filing season.
