Overview
Law360 quoted Lisa Zarlenga throughout an article titled "Opportunity Zone Investing Risky, Panelist Says." The article covers a panel that Zarlenga moderated during the Federal Bar Association's 43rd Annual Tax Law Conference on March 8.
The panel discussed the impact of the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act on corporate transactions, how section 168(k) expensing changes the calculus for corporate M&A transactions, the impact of the new qualified opportunity zone benefits on corporations investing in opportunity zones, and the application of the dividends-received deduction for foreign source dividends from foreign subsidiaries.
Zarlenga noted that despite the questions, qualified opportunity zones continue generating a lot of excitement from investors because the tax benefits are "awesome." She added, "We have no idea how these will be taxed, but give us your money anyway."
