Overview
Carl Wischhusen focuses his practice on patent prosecution and counseling. With over 20 years of experience, Carl handles a wide variety of technologies, including electronics, medical devices, computer software, mechanical devices, medical imaging, energy storage and charging systems, and robotics.
Carl is registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) and has deep experience in all aspects of USPTO practice. Carl has drafted and managed the prosecution of high-value patent applications domestically and around the world. Carl has played a key role in post-grant review proceedings, including ex parte reexaminations and inter partes reviews. Carl additionally is experienced in evaluating the strength of patent portfolios and proposing prosecution strategies in view of potential future litigation, as well as performing infringement analysis on competitors' products.
Carl's practice includes the preparation of invalidity, patentability, and freedom-to-operate opinions. Carl's practice further includes due diligence in support of business and investment deals, including analysis of patent portfolios and evaluation and drafting of asset purchase, licensing, and technology transfer agreements.
Prior to practicing law, Carl worked as an electrical engineer, performing design and research in a number of specialized technology areas. Carl is an active member of the New York Intellectual Property Law Association (NYIPLA) and served for several years as chair of the Patent Law & Practice Committee.
