Overview
Steptoe associate Michael Workman co-authored a discussion paper published by The Law Commission of England & Wales, "AI and the Law." The paper discusses legal issues surrounding artificial intelligence, aiming to raise awareness and stimulate broader dialogue. It outlines several themes pursuant to which AI legal issues arise in private, public and criminal law: autonomy and adaptiveness; interaction with and reliance on AI; and AI training and data use. The paper anticipates AI's growing influence on future law reform efforts and builds on the Law Commission's past projects involving AI, on automated vehicles and in relation to deepfakes and intimate image abuse, and in ongoing projects on aviation autonomy and a pending project on product liability.
