Bloomberg BNA cited Lisa Zarlenga in an August 29 article titled “IRS Resumes Advising Corporations on Some Tax-Free Spinoffs.” The article discusses the IRS’s decision to resume issuing private letter rulings to companies regarding some planned tax-free spinoff transactions after studying the issue for nearly a year.
Ms. Zarlenga says the more liberal ruling policy means taxpayers will be able to get answers on legal questions, such as what types of continuing relationships between the two entities after the spinoff are permissible.
