Bloomberg BNA quoted Steptoe partner Lisa Zarlenga in an article titled “Rewrite Earnings-Stripping Rules, GOP Tax-Writers Tell Lew.” The article, published August 23, discusses letters from both the House Ways and Means Committee Republicans and Senate Finance Committee Chairman Orrin Hatch urging the Treasury Department to re-propose regulations that seek to curb corporate earnings stripping.
Ms. Zarlenga says she would be surprised if the letters resulted in a change. “These letters are going to be taken into consideration but I don’t think they are going to make any sort of significant shift in the momentum of the Treasury and the IRS right now.”
