Bloomberg BNA quoted Steptoe partners Mark Silverman and Greg Kidder in an article titled “Controversy, Big Concerns Ahead for Earnings Stripping Rules.” The article, published April 15, discusses controversial inversions guidance expected to be finalized this summer that is likely already affecting tax planning for global and domestic companies.
Mr. Silverman says: “It reaches out beyond what most people thought. It’s a very significant change to historically what we have done and the analysis we have traditionally gone through.”
“Transactions that actually occurred for business reasons could be treated as equity,” Mr. Kidder adds. “That’s remarkable.”
