Overview
On January 11, 2024 Bloomberg Law quoted Brigida Benitez in an article titled, "SAP Bribery Case Shows US Forgiveness to Cooperating Recidivist." The article discusses the Justice Department’s $220 million settlement with software multinational SAP SE for bribing foreign officials signaling that even repeat-offending companies can benefit from meaningful cooperation.
Speaking about the case Benitez said, "it’s certainly good for the department, because they will point to this when talking to other companies and say, ‘you’re able to do this.' The compensation clawback program will remain a struggle for global companies, who’ll unlikely be motivated by the SAP example. Even though DOJ reduced SAP’s fine by the amount it kept from culpable employees, '$109,000 is a drop in the bucket.'"
