(April 21, 2026, Washington, DC) – Steptoe LLP announced today that Shelita M. Stewart, a highly experienced investigations and compliance partner with deep in‑house and cross‑border experience, has joined the firm in its Investigations, White‑Collar Defense & Compliance group in Washington, DC.
Shelita advises global companies on compliance counseling, government enforcement matters, and internal investigations. Her practice focuses on helping companies anticipate, manage, and respond to regulatory risk, including matters involving the False Claims Act (FCA), Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA), as well as privacy and data governance, Federal Trade Commission (FTC) compliance, and statutory and regulatory issues arising from emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence. She previously held roles as partner at Hogan Lovells LLP and Senior Deputy General Counsel at Comcast Corporation, where she advised on corporate governance and global compliance.
With her combination of law firm and in‑house leadership experience, Shelita regularly advises companies in the technology, sports, media, and healthcare industries in cross‑border investigations, the design and implementation of global compliance programs, and guiding companies through periods of rapid growth and regulatory change.
"Shelita's background advising global businesses from both inside and outside the organization gives her exceptional perspective on how enforcement and compliance intersect," said firm chair Gwen Renigar. "She strengthens our ability to support clients facing complex investigations and to help them build compliance programs that are practical, durable, and responsive to rapidly evolving regulatory expectations."
Shelita joins a growing roster of high-profile lateral hires that reflects Steptoe's strategic focus on financial services and emerging technologies, complex investigative matters, and global risk management. Recent additions include Trace Schmeltz, Jamari Buxton, Amy Hoff, Rob Landicho, Matt Galvin, Carl Hahn and Neel Chopra.
"Steptoe's investigations and compliance platform stands out for its sophistication, collaboration, and global reach," said Shelita. "I'm excited to join a team that helps clients both respond to regulatory challenges and also build systems that allow innovation and growth to move forward responsibly."
