Tyler Evans and Anjali Belur authored an article for Export Compliance Manager titled "Controlled Unclassified Information: the US government's additional layers of protection." The February 2025 article details the proposed expansion of restrictions by the US government on controlled unclassified information (CUI), which is effectively any unclassified information in the government's possession that is subject to controls under law or government-wide policy. Until recently, organizations outside government supply chains have largely been able to avoid CUI requirements. However, the government's proposed expansion will likely make the requirements relevant to many more organizations.
