Overview
Jason Weinstein was quoted throughout a DC Bar article titled “Law Firms Hitch a Ride on the Blockchain Wagon.” The article, published April 3, discusses how the advent of blockchain — the digital ledger that is the foundation of such cryptocurrency forms of exchange as Bitcoin — has led to the growth of blockchain practices at law firms. Steptoe was one of the first law firms to establish a global, multidisciplinary Blockchain practice. The firm helped create and serves as counsel to the Blockchain Alliance, a coalition of more than 60 Blockchain companies and law enforcement and regulatory agencies worldwide, and it serves as the legal services partner of the Global Blockchain Business Council.
Weinstein tells the DC Bar, “There are a lot of lawyers who use it [blockchain] as a buzzword without really having a grasp [of]... why it’s important to clients.” He says it’s hard to pinpoint just one practice area where an understanding of blockchain will stand out. “Everyone is going to be affected. It’s like the second coming of the Internet, only this time you can see it coming.”
