(October 17, 2017, Washington, DC) — Steptoe & Johnson LLP is pleased to announce that Eric Serron has become a fellow of the American College of Employee Benefits Counsel (ACEBC), a not-for-profit organization formed to recognize attorneys who have dedicated their careers to the field of employee benefits and who in doing so have demonstrated their leadership, character, ability and professional responsibility. Mr. Serron, one of twelve attorneys selected from throughout the country, was inducted at the annual ceremony and dinner on October 14 at the Presidio Officers’ Club in San Francisco.
Fellows of the ACEBC are selected by the board of governors from among employee benefits attorneys nominated for that honor and recommended by the board’s nomination committee after considering the recommendations of regional screening committees. Fellows must have at least 20 years of employee benefits law experience and demonstrated a sustained commitment to public awareness and understanding of benefits laws through such activities as writing, speaking, public policy analysis, public education or public service. Selection as a fellow reflects the board’s judgment that a nominee has made significant contributions to advancements in the employee benefits field. The inductees join more than 400 current fellows in the organization.
The ACEBC is dedicated to elevating the standards and advancing the public’s understanding of the practice of employee benefits law. In pursuit of this goal, the college encourages the study and development of employee benefits laws, initiates professional discussions of significant employee benefits issues and sponsors an extensive list of continuing legal education programs.
At Steptoe, Mr. Serron focuses particularly on ERISA litigation and fiduciary responsibility issues. Previously, Mr. Serron served as a trial attorney in the Plan Benefits Security Division of the Office of the Solicitor, US Department of Labor, where he was responsible for representing the secretary of Labor in complex fiduciary breach cases under ERISA at both the trial and appellate levels. He is an adjunct professor at Georgetown Law.
Mr. Serron joins Steptoe partners Joni Andrioff, Melanie Nussdorf, Paul Ondrasik and Don Wellington as fellows of the ACEBC.
