EU Court of Justice Rules EU Countries Must Allow Court Challenges to Tax Information Exchange Requests:  EU nations must allow a court challenge to the legality of an information order issued to implement a tax-related exchange of information request on the grounds that the request lacks “foreseeable relevance,” the EU Court of Justice held today. The ruling came in a case involving a 2014 competent authority request issued by the French tax administration to the Luxembourg tax administration where Luxembourg ordered a company to divulge certain information in order to comply with France’s request.

Senate Finance Committee Announces Mark-Up of the CHRONIC Care Act:  Today, the Senate Finance Committee announced that it will mark up the Creating High-Quality Results and Outcomes Necessary to Improve Chronic (CHRONIC) Care Act of 2017 (S. 870) on May 18. The CHRONIC Care Act aims to improve the Medicare program for seniors suffering from chronic conditions through policies to improve fee-for-service, Medicare Advantage, and accountable care organizations, as well as to provide flexibility, expand access to telehealth services.

Travis Greaves Appointed DOJ Deputy Assistant Attorney General for Policy and Planning:  Travis A. Greaves was sworn in as the Department of Justice’s Tax Division’s Deputy Assistant Attorney General for Policy and Planning on May 12. Mr. Greaves joins the Tax Division from Greaves Wu LLP, where he focused on civil and criminal tax controversies. Mr. Greaves also served as tax and economic policy advisor to Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal, and served as an attorney advisor at the US Tax Court.
