Overview
The European Commission on April 21 published its proposal for a regulation laying down harmonized rules on Artificial Intelligence (AI), the EU Artificial Intelligence Act.
The proposal primarily: (i) identifies prohibited uses of AI and (ii) a wide set of "high risks" AI applications that the proposal seeks to regulate. As currently drafted, the regulation will have important consequences for all those developing, placing on the EU market or using "AI systems," as well as across the supply chain including importers, distributors and third-party suppliers. There is a significant degree of extra-territorial reach. The keys aspects of the proposal are summarized here.
